The Great Primate Handshake

Would you like to travel across Africa whilst creating educational based media to aid world-renowned conservation projects?

The Great Primate Handshake is a digital media production and training expedition created to raise awareness of African conservation organisations within Kenya, Uganda and beyond.

With their touring mobile work shop and team of professionals and volunteers, they work with primate sanctuaries, communities, schools and conservation programmes with the ultimate goal of conserving threatened primates, supporting and educating local communities and enhancing conservation activates.

The Great Primate Handshake currently supports primate sanctuaries such as the Lola Ya Bonobo and J.A.C.K sanctuaries in The Democratic Republic of Congo, The Colobus Trust in Mombassa, Kenya and the Chimpanzee and Wildlife Conservation Trust in Uganda.

Working as a volunteer for the Great Primate Handshake you will join in to share and develop skills in video production and website design working with sanctuary websites. You will also be involved in helping to produce educational material, carrying out interview with local people looking to conserve primates and even help to compose musical scores to videos produced by you and your fellow volunteers.

All this whilst onboard an overland truck for 28 days and experiencing the best landscapes in Africa. An experience of a lifetime.

A recent volunteer Lauren Gribble, summed up her experience:

“With The Great Primate Handshake I couldn’t believe that I found exactly what I wanted: travelling to multiple locations, learning and working with experts in all the fields of my interest, and working on a broad conservation theme to encompass multiple issues.”

As a volunteer you will have to contribute toward this fantastic experience. The cost of the 28 day expedition is £1500.

The 2012 expedition to Kenya will run from 17th July - 13th August and the expedition to Uganda runs from 21st August - 17th September.
