Company DetailsLonsdale Swimming pool is the former Derby University 25 metre 4/5 lane pool located off Western Road, Mickleover. The pool is now operated by the Lonsdale Swimming and Sports Trust, a Registered Charity, for the benefit of the local Community. There are many activities at the pool including public sessions, swimming lessons (for children, adults and ladies only) competitive swimming clubs, disability groups, parents and toddlers and schools. There are always professional lifeguards on duty for the safety of swimmers. If you have any specific requirements please phone or email for further information. The Trust also operates Gayton Swimming Pool in Littleover on behalf of the City Council. The pay and swim sessions are ideal for those who want to come and exercise to their own schedule, perhaps before work in the morning or during a lunch break. The public (adult) access sessions are ideal for this. Pay and Swim (Adult only) Monday—Friday 07:00—09:00 and 12:15 to 13:30 Parent,Toddler and Babies The Parent and Toddler session is usually on a Tuesday at 11:00 for parents to enjoy some time with their young children introducing them to the water as a fun place to be. There are swimming aids available and a swimming teacher on hand to provide informal advice and support. Baby lessons are also operated, giving parents or carers guidance on introducing their baby to the water and fun sessions to get the baby acclimatised with a teacher in the water to help. Children's Swimming Lessons There are swimming lessons run every day of the week. Lonsdale Pool runs swimming lessons for children in four sessions during the week. The lessons are run by trained teachers with qualifications from the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and they are licensed to teach by the ASA. The National Plan for Teaching Swimming is used and there are sessions that cover all the ranges from 1 to 7 of the Plan. There are arrangements to continue swimming with the competitive Club, Derby Phoenix, that operates from the pool for those that want to continue swimming after becoming proficient. Adult Swimming Lessons Lonsdale runs lessons for adults. These are open to all adults on the basis of a prepayment for 5 weeks. There are specific Ladies Only Lessons with exclusively female staff. There is the adult (Masters) Spondon Swimming Club at the pool for those who want to train regularly or compete. Swimming Clubs There are competitive swimming clubs using the pool including Derby Phoenix SC and Spondon SC and others from time to time including disability groups. We also have a Triathlon Club for training for this popular sport. Please enquire for contacts. Training Courses Training courses are run at the pool, we are an accredited centre for Lifeguard training under the RLSS (Royal Life Saving Society) banner and other types of swimming course such as Teachers and CPD. Lifeguard regular monthly training is also provided to employed lifeguards. |
