Fat Face has been a presence of the UK’s retail scene since the early 1990s when co-founders ex-copper Tim Slade and business graduate Jules Leaver opened their first store in Fulham Road, London.

The pair had actually started the company on a much smaller scale five years when the two of them were skiing in France. Messrs Slade and Leaver would buy loads of plain T-shirts and have them printed up with scenes from French ski resorts like Méribel. The two would then sell on the T-shirts to other guests of the pistes to pay for their own skiing and travel costs.

The Fat Face name was actually inspired by the Face de Bellevarde ski slope in Val-d'Isère (which had hosted some events of the Winter Olympics the year before the Fulham Road store opened its doors). Just seven years later, Slade and Leaver sold 40% of their lifestyle clothing retail business for a cool £5 million.

There are now over 200 Fat Face stores in the UK and Ireland, and the company offers a number of full and part time job opportunities which would be perfect for students and graduates looking to enter the retail game.
