HSBC looks for 300 graduates University leavers looking for graduate jobs in London may be interested to hear that HSBC is looking to hire more than 300 graduates next year, it has been reported.

According to the Times the bank will have openings in commercial management, consumer finance, insurance broking and retail management, as well as a plethora of graduate IT jobs.

Most of the company's training programmes last two years and prepare graduates for executive and management positions, the paper states.

The Times said: "Despite the financial crisis, a record number of university-leavers applied for City jobs this year and several of the top banks averaged more than 100 applications per graduate vacancy."

Adding: "Applications from the Class of 2009 are unlikely to match these levels, but competition for the top positions will remain fierce."

Meanwhile, HSBC was in the top ten of the newspaper's Top 100 Graduate Employers for five consecutive years until this year, when it dropped to twelfth place.

In related news, HSBC shares tumbled 15 per cent reaching a five-year low today of just 681.5p, according to Interactive Investor, which blamed the bank's exposure to emerging markets and commodities for the fall.
