London college overhauls recruitment process

29 Aug 2008

London college overhauls recruitment process Birkbeck, part of the University of London, has replaced its paper-based recruitment process with an online resource which is expected to reduce the cost-per-hire by 43 per cent.

Concerned by the amount of time spent sifting through application forms from graduates, the HR department decided that an e-recruitment solution was the answer.

In 2005-06, Birkbeck's HR department received more than 4,800 applications and gathered 1,200 references – spending 1,100 hours on recruitment administration.

Robert Morrison comments: “After reviewing our recruitment procedures, it was apparent that we needed to implement an e-recruitment solution to eliminate the low value routine paper-based process."

The new external recruitment website allows candidates to apply for multiple posts immediately and to revisit application forms and change them.

And (remove) online recruitment can also save graduates time, as they can store vital application information online, allowing them to fill out applications forms quickly and easily.

According to the Monster Employment Index, online demand for jobs in tourism and hospitality and healthcare rose sharply in July for the third successive month.
