More bosses "see benefits of health insurance for employees"

More bosses "see benefits of health insurance for employees" The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that employers are increasingly taking out health insurance policies for their workers in a bid to stay ahead in a competitive labour market.

Jonathan French, spokesperson for the ABI, explained: "Increasingly employers are seeing the benefits of buying medical insurance packages for their staff because it's obviously good for the individual if they can recover and get back to work more quickly, and it's also highly beneficial for the employer to get their employee back to work more quickly."

He added that in an increasingly competitive labour market, employers are using "add-ons" such as private medical insurance (PMI) to recruit the best staff, something which could affect graduates looking for jobs.

According to research by the ABI, the number of people who are covered by PMI is now over six million for the first time in five years, with a total of 7,140,000 people in the UK possessing some kind of private health cover.

Bupa recently published a study in which nearly three-quarters of those people with PMI said they would recommend it to their family and friends.
