Job vacancies double from last year

09 Apr 2008

Job vacancies double from last year Jobs across the UK's key industries increased by more than double in March compared to a year ago, according to the latest industry figures.

The statistics revealed the building and construction sector to be the best performer as it created 18,700 new jobs, more than four times the jobs it recorded in March 2007.

Showing an increase of 510 per cent, the biggest growth was in the media, marketing and publishing sector .

The fact that there were more than double the number of jobs available this March could be good news to students looking for part-time or temporary jobs.

Philip Arnold, the managing director of Mandis, told onrec.com that the results confirm the trend towards the expansion of lower-paying jobs in the economy, that cannot be outsourced overseas.

"Expansion and improving upon on the overall positive position in February, the March 2008 figures are very upbeat," he added.

The figures from the Adecco Mandis Job Creation Index compare the number of jobs created in a month against the same month the previous year to form a percentage increase or decrease.
