Students who are in part time work and are looking to better themselves while they are there, may be interested to hear that coaching is becoming an increasingly popular way of promoting learning and development in the workplace.

Research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) suggests that almost 71 per cent of employers in the UK are using coaching in their companies.

John McGurk, CIPD learning, training and development adviser, said: "Coaching is not just a popular technique but an immensely powerful one for supporting personal development."

He added that there is "no doubt" that coaching is having a "significant" impact on the performances of individuals and organisations.

Mr McGurk concluded that because coaching helps people to develop, it is a "perfect fit" for the "fast moving knowledge economy in which we operate".

The report also reveals that 72 per cent of organisations found that coaching was a useful tool in developing their members of staff, be it in full time or part time work.

More than two fifths of companies offer coaching to all their employees, including the people working on in part time jobs.

The CIPD is the professional body for people and organisations which are involved in the management and development of people and has 130,000 individual members.
