More jobs for IT sector

14 Feb 2008

More jobs for IT sector A new survey has found a buoyant international IT industry despite fears over the continuing credit crunch.

Students looking to move into the technology sector will welcome the report which was conducted by Eurocom Worldwide in partnership with Global PR Network and Six Degrees.

Over half of the 350 senior IT industry executives polled stated they were more confident of prospects in the IT sector in 2008 compared to last year.

Additionally, nearly three-quarters hoped to increase jobs in their company this year and 88 per cent of executives expected revenues to increase - a marginal change from the 91 per cent recorded last year.

Jennifer Janson, managing director at Six Degrees, highlighted that financial turbulence had not affected IT firms as much as first feared with just over a quarter of respondents suggesting that it influenced their outlook for the year.

"Our survey shows that across the technology industry confidence remains solid, in spite of the global credit crisis," she confirmed.

Meanwhile, the National Computing Centre has warned of a re-emergence of an IT skills shortage with its latest report showing perceived shortages increasing from 4.2 per cent to 6.8 per cent this year.
