Recruiters warned over security

31 Jan 2008

Recruiters warned over security Employers have been warned not to fall short when it comes to committing to security checks, it has emerged.

John Colley, Europe and eastern Africa director for international security certification body (ISC)2 told the Recruiter that understanding security issues is crucial when hiring new staff.

"It's very important that you understand the issues and particularly what to look for when recruiting staff such as the need to do proper background checks," he told the news provider.

Recruiters should research the market and understand more about the information security sector to make sure their recruitment strategies are effective, Mr Colley suggested in the article.

"It's a question of understanding what information security people do. People think it's IT, but it's something on its own," he added.

Demand is currently outstripping supply in terms of appointing security managers, compliance officers and information security professionals, Mr Colley reportedly indicated.

His comments follow the announcement last week that a rogue trader has conducted a £3.6 million fraud at the France-based bank Societe Generale.

The Financial Services Authority has since indicated in its annual report that tightening economic conditions in the UK could expose more financial crimes and improved security is required in the equity derivatives market, reports the Daily Telegraph.
