New super city could create 30,000 jobs

21 Jan 2008

New super city could create 30,000 jobs Plans for a new northern "super city" have been unveiled which could result in 30,000 new jobs being created, providing good news for students looking for jobs when they graduate.

The proposal includes a 1.5 million square foot business district which the development firm, Creative Sheffield, hopes will attract employers to it.

Creative Sheffield chief executive Ian Bromley said: "This is the most authoritative business plan any UK city has seen. Sheffield had the highest employment growth of all UK core cities during the 10 years to 2005, with 73,000 new jobs, which shows we have the track record to deliver on our ambitions."

He added that the Sheffield is the perfect place for the development as it "is fortunate to have a name recognised throughout the world. It stands for quality and innovation and our plan is to place Sheffield back on to the world economic stage".

If the plans are accepted and are implemented successfully then 16,000 unemployed people are expected to be given jobs.

Creative Sheffield is the UK's first city development company. It is charged with the task of improving the city's image, to attract investment, to develop the city infrastructure and to develop new initiatives to promoter the growth of Sheffield's scientific, creative and cultural knowledge base.
