Knowledge workers 'will help Europe's economic growth'

08 Nov 2007

Knowledge workers 'will help Europe's economic growth' 'Knowledge workers' should be encouraged to develop their skills to help boost European economic growth, according to a report from the Work Foundation.

Defined as professionals, managers and associate professionals - which includes nurses and technicians - knowledge workers constitute 41 per cent of the UK's working population, the study found.

Commenting on the study, its author, Katerina Rudiger, said more nations need to utilise this group.

"Together knowledge workers hold the keys to the European dream of being the world’s top knowledge economy, but on the evidence of our report, too many nations are not making the most of them," she explained.

Ms Rudiger also said many knowledge workers state they would like more opportunities to use their skills and advance their careers.

The Work Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve people's quality of life and overall economic performance.
