Graduates' careers show good progression

07 Nov 2007

Graduates' careers show good progression Graduates are seeing a positive progression in their careers, according to the results of a recent survey.

The Higher Education Statistic Agency (HESA) and Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) revealed that, of the same group of graduates, the number in full-time employment has gone up from 57 per cent to 74 per cent in the past three years.

Graduate salaries were to average at a respectable £23,000, while those with postgraduate qualifications bring in on average £28,000.

However, the government think tank Reform has said that students are finding managing debts incurred while at university difficult to shift, reports Fair Investment.

Student debt has gone up by a whopping 167 per cent in the past decade, making it increasingly challenging to start to pay it off.

Those currently completing their degrees are advised to take heed of the Royal Bank of Scotland's Student Living Index which shows that students are earning up to £146.10 a week in part time jobs while studying at university.

The HESA report highlights the relevance of the study, stating: "The analysis, undertaken for HESA by the National Centre for Social Research, provides a rich insight into the employment patterns of leavers three and a half years into their careers."
