Potential for many more creative jobs in north-east The north-east is expected to see in excess of 9,000 new jobs created in the commercial creative sector over the next five years, according to development agency One NorthEast.

Graduates looking to find jobs in film, television, advertising, new media, games, performing arts or publishing in the north-east should be aware that 53 per cent of companies in the area are planning to recruit new staff.

This marks a 36 per cent increase in today's employment levels for the next five years.

Meanwhile, 81 per cent of the region's businesses in the industry, worth a total of £800 million to the local economy, said they expect to see an increase in turnover over the coming five years.

"If we can grasp the opportunities highlighted in this report, then we can plan for a very positive future, particularly in new media ventures and Public Service Publishing (PSP) that will inevitably create more high-value jobs for the region," said Nick Oldham, managing director of Media 19, a leading production company in the north-east.

Furthermore, Ian Williams, director of business and industry at One NorthEast, explained that there are wide-ranging strengths in the area, having a huge impact on the region's economy in general.
