Productivity boost through flexi-work

23 Oct 2007

Productivity boost through flexi-work Enhanced staff productivity is the main reason employers choose to offer flexible work.

Despite PricewaterhouseCoopers' findings that most graduates do not expect to work flexibly, some may be interested to know that many employers recognise its benefit to their company.

According to figures from Datamonitor on behalf of Dimension Data, 41 per cent of companies choose to offer flexible working as a means to boosting productivity, while, 13 per cent said they provide it as an option as a way to improve staff retention.

Rob Lopez, managing director of Solutions at Dimension Data, said: "Productivity remains a crucial driver behind organisations’ communications strategies.

"As such, flexi-working (the ability to work anytime at any location), supported by technologies including e-mail, mobile telephony and instant messaging and presence information, can play a significant role in increasing employee productivity."

For the environment-conscious, home working is an attractive option, as the Home Builders Federation recently reported that it can help people to cut back on their carbon emissions by eliminating their journey to work.

Dave Mitchel, technical director of the trade association, commented: "There should be more moves to perhaps encourage people to work from home."
