Thousands of jobs created

16 Oct 2007

Thousands of jobs created Over 40,800 UK jobs were created in September this year, according to recent research.

The latest figures from the Adecco/Mandis Job Creation Index (JCI) show that the number of jobs available increased by 20 per cent last month from the same time last year.

Rene Schuster, chief executive of Adecco Group, UK & Ireland, commented: "We have seen a positive rise in job creation this month. Despite the credit crunch that is affecting City and financial jobs, a number of key sectors have shown strong efforts in job creation this month."

Graduates searching for jobs will be interested to know that job creation numbers were highest in health and social care, transport and distribution, leisure and recreation.

Whereas, the textiles, industrial and engineering sectors saw decreases in job creation figures compared to last year.

The statistics come following a speech by the minister for competitiveness, Stephen Timms, who said last week that the recruitment of graduates is "vital" for the construction industry.
