Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the new Construction and the Built Environment GCSE, Mr Timms said that the industry should consider the recruitment of freshly-trained graduates "vital", according tob uilding.co.uk.

The East Ham MP, whose responsibilities include the promotion and development of the construction industry, said that major projects were ecentral to the economy and public services and could be used to tempt more young people into construction careers.

"The industry relies on a whole range of professions and skills, and we need high quality vocational education, alongside more academic routes, for our business to be successful, and everyone to achieve their aspirations," he said.

He added that the first step was to encourage the best students, that had ability and aptitude, to choose a career in construction.

Crossrail, a new railway proposed between Maindehead and Heathrow, is estimated to benefit to the UK economy by £30 million, Crossrail stated.
