College in Cornwall opens doors for construction students A Cornish college is opening a new training centre to help meet the demand from students in Plymouth and south-east Cornwall who are looking to work in the construction industry.

Saltash College's new Construction Skills Centre is planned to open later this year, as part of a £2.5 million project for development of the college, which also includes a new further education building and higher education centre.

The new facility includes well-equipped workshops housing a wide range of industry standard machinery and a huge variety of new tools and will provide courses in construction, plumbing, electrical installation and gas assessment.

Courses will be available on a full-time basis, as well as adult education courses and training for apprentices.

Richard Powell, head of the new Construction Skills Centre said: "We have received a lot of interest in these courses and we hope to become a focus for the training of people in construction skills within Devon and Cornwall.

"New students will benefit from this superb centre and will be trained to a high quality, essential for a career within the construction industry."

John Latham CEO and principal of the college, added: "Cornwall College Saltash has recently undergone substantial investment which has opened up many opportunities for people within south east Cornwall and beyond to have access to first class facilities.

"The Construction Skills Centre will offer a range of construction courses much needed within the area."
