Delivery firm Evri (formerly Hermes) has announced plans to create 9,000 full and part time jobs across the UK.
Around 8,000 of the roles will be courier jobs but there will also be a further 1,000 warehouse vacancies and support roles on offer.
Evri took on 5,000 couriers in the run up to Christmas last year, but this latest round of recruitment is even more ambitious after the firm has seen an increase in demand for deliveries, mainly fueled by online shoppers.
Although courier jobs will be available at many locations, Evri has mentioned Bury St Edmunds, Cheshire, Plymouth, Gatwick and Scotland as areas which they are targeting.
On some days, Evri delivers as many as 4 million parcels and now needs to increase its headcount of self-employed couriers from around 20,000 at the moment to 28,000 by the end of the year.
Announcing the hiring spree, the chief executive officer of Evri, Martijn De Lange, said: “New client wins and increased parcel volumes are proof of the trust customers have in our service and our biggest-ever recruitment drive promises to deliver another record year.”
“Evri is also on the way to be the most sustainable parcel delivery company by building the largest sustainable fleet of e-cargo bikes, with more bikes than ever on the road in 2024, as we move towards our goal of becoming net-zero by 2035.”
“We know that service, reliability and quality are critical factors for our clients and consumers. We have an industry-leading 99% on-time delivery rate and our couriers have received more than 3 million 5-star reviews on Trustpilot and customers using our own app rate their courier 4.7 out of 5 on average,” added the CEO.
Couriers at Evri can earn upwards of £16 per hour and tend to work in their own local area. They also can work quite flexible hours as delivery slots are from 8 in the morning until 8 in the evening.
