Cinema chain Vue is set to create dozens of new full and part time jobs in Essex with the launch of a new venue in Basildon later this summer.

Around 50 cinema jobs will be up for grabs at the ten screen leisure attraction in Baslidon’s East Square area in the town centre.

The luxury cinema facility will feature high definition 4K screens and recliner seats for film lovers.

Announcing the news, a spokesperson for London-based Vue said: “Ahead of the launch of its new Basildon East Square venue later this summer, Vue has begun the recruitment process to appoint a team of nearly 50 people to welcome its customers this summer, with an overwhelming response from people in the area.”

Toby Bradon, Vue’s Territory General Manager for the UK and Ireland, said: “It was wonderful to have the opportunity to see our new venue coming to life. We’re excited to bring Vue to Basildon in time for families to enjoy films during the summer holidays.”

“To help us offer the big screen experience we are renowned for, we are seeking to recruit a team who are passionate about the films made for the big screen and creating an exceptional experience for customers.”

“The vacancies are a fantastic opportunity for avid film fans in particular and those who excel in a customer service role,” added Mr Bradon.

Local Conservative councillor Kevin Blake, welcomed the announcement, saying: “Obviously it’s good news for the town, we said all along we would do it and it is going to happen.”

“It’s good to see new jobs for the town, but it’s not just about the jobs at the cinema. These workers will spend their money in the town, so it’s a boost for the whole economy in a number of ways. I think it will be popular and busy and it’s all going to be state of the art technology.”

“We were always confident this would be a good leisure offering for people in the borough and those from outside Basildon too. If we’ve got one of the best cinemas in the area why wouldn’t people visit Basildon for it?” asked Mr Blake.

Founded in 1999, Vue has over 90 cinema venues in the UK & Ireland alone, boasting almost 900 screens. The chain also has many more cinemas under local brand names in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Poland.
