Heavy Equipment Firm JCB Creating 200 New Jobs In Staffordshire

JCB, the manufacturer of heavy equipment for the agriculture and construction sectors, is creating 200 more jobs in Staffordshire.

The 200 new roles will be split between JCB’s bases at Cheadle, Rocester, Uttoxeter in the north of the county as the company is enjoying a surge in sales.

Half of the new JCB vacancies will be for welders, whilst the other 100 roles ro be filled include forklift truck drivers, machine operators and assembly line workers.

All of the jobs pay at least £11.50 per hour with the chance of a pay rise after three months.

JCB, which currently employs around 8,000 members of staff, say the new vacancies will be filled by agency staff initially, but that some of the positions could turn into permanent jobs over time.

Indeed, the company says that over recent years, more than 800 staff have gone onto JCB’s own payroll after joining their ranks as agency workers.

Announcing the new round of hiring at his firm, Max Jeffrey, JCB’s director of Human Resources said: “JCB has enjoyed another record year. Achieving record growth means we've to find a record number of people to fuel this growth. Not only in the UK but all over the world.”

“You've got to work hard to stand still. Really high levels of employment means it can be difficult trying to grow. But we have to grasp the nettle and get on with it and get more people to consider working for JCB."

“Covid drove people to look elsewhere and they looked at us and our pay rates and realised they could earn a good living. We've kept a lot of those. But we're creating another 200 jobs,” added Mr Jeffrey.
