Screwfix Creating 800 New Full & Part Time Jobs In The UK & Ireland

Screwfix, the trade tools and accessories retail chain, has announced plans to create 800 new full and part time jobs in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The home improvement specialist is setting out on an expansion drive for 80 new stores and will create an average of 10 vacancies with each opening.

All of the 800 new Screwfix retail jobs are expected to be filled by the end of January 2023 and positions on offer will include sales assistants and managers.

There will also be the option for new recruits to join Screwfix’s apprenticeship programme which is already home to 850 apprentices.

Screwfix currently has around 790 stores and employs over 8,800 people in the UK and Ireland.

The latest expansion plans will see the firm increase both its number of locations and headcount by around 10 per cent.

With more people working from home since the start of the pandemic, Screwfix’s business has benefited from a rise in the number of people carrying out their own home improvements and garden renovations.

Announcing the expansion plans for his firm, John Mewett, the chief executive officer of Screwfix, said:

“We know how busy tradespeople are and how important it is to be able to find a Screwfix store close to site.In opening more stores across the UK and Ireland, we’re making Screwfix even more accessible to tradespeople, ensuring they can get their job done quickly, affordably and right first time.”

“We’re also delighted to be having a positive impact on local communities, creating more than 800 jobs for local people,” added the CEO.

Explaining why she’s worked for Screwfix for more than a decade, Gemma Smallwood, now a Branch Manager for the DIY chain, said:

“The work life/family life balance at Screwfix is second to none, and the best I have ever experienced, the flexibility to accommodate you with your commitments, outside of work is precious and key to our colleagues, who will go out of their way to help each other.”
