Getir Creating 6,000 New Full & Part Time Jobs In The UK

Turkish start-up food delivery firm Getir has announced massive expansion plans which will see the firm create around 6,000 new full and part time jobs across the United Kingdom.

Getir, the Turkish word for ‘bring’ or ‘fetch’ was formed 6 years ago but only launched in the UK at the start of last year in London.

The company has since expanded rapidly to more than a dozen towns and cities including Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.

Getir now employs around 4,000 people across its UK operations and needs even more staff to help them grow further.

The next phase of their expansion drive will see Getir create a further 6,000 vacancies as the start-up rolls out its business model to even more UK locations.

The Turkish firm expects to fill all of the new jobs before the end of 2022, meaning they will more than double their UK headcount to around 10,000 by next Christmas.

Announcing the expansion plans, the regional general manager for Getir, Turancan Salur, said: “2021 was an extremely successful year for Getir as we began our global expansion. There is no better city to launch international expansion from than London, due to its worldwide status and welcoming, cosmopolitan and diverse nature.

“From only five stores when we opened a year ago, we now serve our customers from 115 stores which have created thousands of jobs, all from the area surrounding our stores. We have beaten all expectations for 2021 and plan to go even further this year. If there is demand out there, we’ll be ready to serve it.”

“We now operate in almost 20 cities and towns across the UK and deliver groceries in around 10 minutes after we’ve received an order. We only use electric bikes and electric mopeds to deliver our groceries and play a key role in making city roads safer, quieter and less polluted,” added Mr Salur.

Welcoming the announcement by Getir as the firm launched new operations in Wolverhampton earlier this week, Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, the Secretary of State for International Trade, said: “We’re making the UK the most attractive investment destination in the world across our economy, from our thriving food and drink sector to innovative digital commerce brands like Getir.”

“Foreign investment means more high-value jobs providing a major boost to local economies. Today’s opening in Wolverhampton shows how trade and investment is turbocharging the green industries of the future and helping to level up every part of our country,” added Ms Trevelyan.
