German supermarket chain Aldi is creating 2,000 new full or part time jobs in 2022 as the discount retailer looks to further expand its UK operations.

Aldi says it will open 100 new stores, creating an average of around 20 vacancies with each launch.

The retail chain also said it is looking to further increase its use of British suppliers, adding 100 new UK sources next year in an effort to provide more local produce to shoppers.

Commenting on the drive for more UK suppliers and the hiring spree it will fuel, Aldi UK’s chief executive officer, Giles Hurley, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our support for British suppliers, and excited for our supply chain partners to grow with us. That’s why we’re now on the lookout for even more British suppliers to add to our current partnerships, helping to create even more jobs as well as new opportunities for these businesses.”

Aldi is now the UK’s fifth biggest supermarket chain and is fast closing in on the 1,000 store mark over here.

The company regularly features in top employer lists such as the Guardian’s UK 300 Graduate Employers (as voted for by students and graduates) and was listed 5th this year on The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers.

Worldwide, the Aldi brand has a presence in 11 countries and the company has over 6,500 supermarkets and provides jobs for more than 150,000 people in full and part time roles.

At the time of writing, Aldi Store Assistants in the UK earn at least £9.95 per hour across most of the UK, but employees within the M25 belt see that rise to a minimum of £11.07 (rising to £11.32).

If you rise through the ranks at Aldi, then Store Managers can command a salary of as much as £65,000 after just four years.
