Accenture Creating 3,000 New Tech Jobs In The UK

IT and consulting specialist Accenture has announced expansion plans to create 3,000 new tech jobs in the UK.

The professional services firm is creating the highly skilled vacancies for graduates and experienced workers over the course of the next three years - and around half of the new Accenture jobs will be London-based.

The other 1,500 jobs will be regional, with big cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle set to benefit from the massive hiring spree.

The company currently employs around 11,000 people in the UK, so the expansion plans will see Accenture boost their headcount by more than 27 per cent before the end of 2024.

Announcing the plans, Market Unit Lead for Accenture in the UK & Ireland, Simon Eaves, said: “The UK economy is rebounding swiftly following the pandemic and we are seeing strong demand from clients seeking to capitalise on this growth opportunity.

“We are committed to growing our footprint across the UK which is why I am particularly excited about our plans across Scotland and northern England where we see some of the best technology talent in the country.”

“This expansion by Accenture is a great example of the kind of digitally focused, high-skilled jobs that will help level up economic growth across the whole of the UK and help us build back better,” added Mr Eaves.

Commenting on the recruitment drive in her own region, co-lead of Accenture’s North West Operations, Vanessa Harding, said: “We are planting deep roots here. We’re proud of Accenture’s long-standing presence in Manchester, and this announcement underlines our commitment to growing in this fantastic city.”

“We firmly believe in utilising high skilled local talent, particularly within the technology sector, as a means of strengthening our business. And over the next three years we aim to double the size of our Manchester team,” added Ms Harding.

Her Yorkshire counterpart, Helen Morgan, said: “Leeds has become a real hub for leading technology firms outside London, particularly over the last couple of years. We’ve already built up our talent in this area and we’re looking forward to growing our presence in the region with ambitious recruitment goals over the coming years.”

Responsible for operations north of the border, managing director for Accenture in Scotland, Michelle Hawkins, said: “This investment to create more jobs across the UK is an opportunity to grow our footprint in Scotland.”

“[Our country] has the talent and by creating these high-value jobs across data analytics and cloud in particular, we hope to continue to build Scotland’s reputation as a place of technology innovation and digital transformation.”

“The pandemic has emphasised the role that technology plays in our economy and how it not only drives change but also competitiveness. It has also demonstrated that talent can be accessed anywhere.”

“By building our expertise here in Scotland we envisage a greater role for Scottish skills supporting companies and economies overseas, without the need for them to relocate,” said the managing director.

Welcoming the announcement, Kwasi Kwarteng, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, said: “This expansion by Accenture is a great example of the kind of digitally focused, high-skilled jobs that will help level up economic growth across the whole of the UK and help us build back better.”
