Pharmaceutical firm Almac has revealed that it is creating 1,800 new jobs for graduates and people who already have experience in the sector.
The jobs are to be filled over the next three years and more than half of the vacancies will be based across the company’s operations in Northern Ireland.
Almac has given clinical trials support to firms including BioNTech and Pfizer to assist with their COVID-19 roll out.
The pharma firm, which already employs 6,000 members of staff, is increasing its headcount by 30 per cent worldwide - and 1,000 of the 1,800 new positions will be based in Northern Ireland.
The recruitment drive and expansion plans will see Almac’s headcount swell to more than 8,000 before the end of 2024.
There will be over 120 different types of jobs on offer, with vacancies at the company’s main base at Craigavon, County Armagh. Other NI areas set to see Almac vacancies will include Belfast and Derry.
Launching the recruitment drive, the Chief Executive Officer of Almac, Alan Armstrong, said: “As demand for our services steadily increases, our aim is to continue to grow our global team by actively recruiting 1,800 new individuals across a wide variety of diverse and exciting areas.”
“Over 1,000 of these positions will be based in Northern Ireland and come with a range of benefits including flexible working, competitive salary and an annual bonus. Crucially this offers individuals the chance to help us continue our provision of solutions whilst making a real and positive contribution to health right across the world.”
“Almac’s mission is to advance human health and we are proud to be supporting so many global clients as they develop their life-saving treatment for patients in need,” added Mr Armstrong.
