British online fashion and cosmetic retailer ASOS is creating 2,000 full and part time warehouse jobs in Staffordshire.

The company has opened a new £90 million distribution centre in Lichfield and will create hundreds of jobs in the region. The warehouse will be used to distribute goods throughout the UK as well as to more than 150 other countries.

The fulfilment centre covers more than 40,000 square metres at Lichfield’s 300 acre Fradley Park and recruitment is already underway to fill the warehouse roles.

Around 700 positions have already been filled but ASOS say that they will be recruiting a further 1,300 people in Staffordshire before the end of 2024.

Launching the new facility, the chief operating officer of ASOS, Mat Dunn, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating the opening of our brand-new warehouse in Lichfield, which will support our ambitious international growth plans and bring a significant number of jobs to the area.”

“Our choice of Lichfield reflects the skills and talent it has to offer and we’re looking forward to becoming part of the local community in the years ahead,” added Mr Dunn.

The leader of Lichfield District Council, Councillor Doug Pullen, welcomed the news, saying: “As well as creating local employment and supply chain opportunities, I know ASOS are keen to play an active role in our community and I look forward to working with them in the years ahead.”

“We are ideally located for this type of facility with a skilled local workforce, excellent infrastructure and a high quality of life,” said Councillor Pullen.

Michael Fabricant, MP for Lichfield, said the city has ‘a highly educated, well-motivated and skilled workforce’ so the district has attracted many hi-tech industries.

“In addition, it is a great place to live with lively nightlife combined with a historic centre. I welcome ASOS to Fradley and wish them the very best for the future,” added Mr Fabricant.
