High street and online retailer M&S has announced its recruitment plans for the festive break this year - and they are creating a massive 12,000 Christmas vacancies throughout the UK.

There will be thousands of seasonal customer service assistant roles advertised at Marks & Spencer stores all over England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Pay starts at £9.20 per hour for these vacancies, but is £1.05 more per hour in London.

The temporary store assistants, most of whom will be starting at the beginning of December, will either work the Xmas break in either the food, clothes, beauty or home departments

Although there are no further details as yet, M&S have confirmed that some of the store roles could be made permanent at the start of 2022.

In addition to the customer service assistant roles, M&S will also be hiring 750 new recruits at its distribution centres in Bradford and Milton Keynes. Those positions will be split between the two cities, with 600 on offer in Bradford and a further 150 in Milton Keynes.

As an extra sweetener, the ‘colleagues’ hired by M&S will be entitled to perks such as instore and online discounts on their shopping from the retailer.

Announcing the Christmas jobs bonanza at the retailer, the Stores Director at M&S, Helen Milford, said: “Here at M&S we're busy preparing for the exciting Christmas period. And to help us deliver the famous M&S magic and sparkle our customers know us for, this year our fantastic store teams are looking for an additional 12,000 seasonal colleagues.”
