Costa Coffee Brews Up 2,000 New Team Member Jobs In The UK

British chain Costa Coffee is creating 2,000 new full or part time team member jobs across the United Kingdom.

The hiring spree at Costa Coffee is being driven by increased demand for their beverages along with an expansion of more outlets at multiple UK locations and an expected busy period of trading during Christmas and New Year..

In addition to hiring hundreds of new staff over the coming few months, Costa Coffee is also rewarding all of their 14,500 UK employees with a five per cent pay rise as a thank you for their ‘commitment and continued passion’ during the COVID-19 era.

After the pay rise is introduced, in store staff at Costa Coffee will earn a minimum of £9.36 per hour. The coffee chain said that the average in store employee would see an increase of up to £900 in their take home pay after the wage rise comes into effect in October.

‘Barista Maestros’ will also see their hourly pay rise to at least £10.29 per hour.

Announcing the pay rise and recruitment drive for hundreds of new staff, Costa Coffee UK & Ireland’s managing director, Neil Lake, said: “Our team members are the heart of our business and, as we continue to emerge stronger from the pandemic, this five per cent pay increase is one way we are able to show our thanks to them.”

“Our teams have been through the most challenging year and a half in living memory and have shown incredible passion, resilience and commitment as they continue to serve perfectly-crafted cups of Costa coffee to consumers across the country.”

“We are committed to putting our team members first, investing in their safety and wellbeing and their long-term development, ensuring we remain a great place to work for all our current team members and the 2,000 team members we’ll be welcoming in the coming months,” added Mr Lake.

The Costa Coffee story began in Lambeth, London in 1971 when Italian brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa set up the company. It has since grown to a chain of almost 4,000 stores and is now owned by The Coca-Cola Company.
