Optician chain Specsavers is creating over 1,250 full or part time jobs in the UK on the back of renewed demand for its services since COVID-19 restrictions started to ease on the high street.

England will benefit from most of the new retail vacancies at Specsavers, with 1,137 positions on offer. Scotland will add 72 new Specsavers recruits, whilst Wales and Northern Ireland will take on 59 and 24 new staff respectively.

A variety of roles will be on offer at Specsavers, including retail vacancies, store management jobs, optometrists and audiologists. There will also be some opportunities for apprentices at the retail chain.

Founded in 1984, Specsavers employs over 23,000 members of staff in the UK and Ireland. With around 940 stores, an average branch of Specsavers provides jobs for approximately 25 people.

The latest recruitment spree will see the optician increase its headcount by over 5 per cent in the coming months after a challenging period of trading since the Coronavirus outbreak last year.

Announcing the recruitment drive, Clare Corcoran, Specsavers’ divisional chair for Wales, said: “We’ve experienced a real bounce back in trade so we’re really pleased to be in a position to create these new roles. We would love people to consider a career with us, even if it means doing something completely different to what they are used to, as we have such a broad spectrum of roles available and provide training at all levels.”
