BT Creating 7,000 New Jobs In The UK With Super Fast Internet Roll Out

BT has announced plans for a massive roll out of super fast internet which will create around 7,000 new full and part time jobs in the UK.

The flagship British telecoms company is investing an average of £5 billion per year over the next five years to update the broadband connections of 25 million homes and businesses in the UK.

Assuming they hit their targets, then the achievement will equate to one installation of their updated infrastructure to one new location at just short of every two and a half seconds until the end of 2026.

According to BT, the majority of the thousands of new roles will be engineering positions within the Openreach division of the company’s operation.

Announcing the rollout plans, the Chief Executive Officer of BT, Philip Jansen, said: “BT is already building more full fibre broadband to homes and businesses than anyone else in the UK.”

“Today we are increasing our FTTP target from 20 million to 25 million homes and businesses to deliver further value to our shareholders and support the Government’s full fibre ambitions.”

“This has three massive benefits. It allows us to go faster, beefing up our capacity to build fibre to households and businesses. It allows us to go further, getting fibre to more people including in rural communities.”

“And it will help fuel UK economic recovery, with better connectivity and up to 7,000 new jobs,” added the CEO.

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, welcomed the announcement from the telecom firm, saying:

“Fantastic that BT Group are rolling out lightning-fast broadband to even more homes. Our broadband revolution will fire up businesses and homes and will be crucial in levelling up and building back better right across the country.”
