Poundland To Create 250 New Retail Jobs In The UK

Discount retailer Poundland has announced plans to create 250 new full or part time retail jobs in the UK.

Poundland, founded in 1990, is embarking on an expansion drive which will see the firm open 30 new stores across the UK, creating an average of more than eight vacancies at each location.

The company has created over 400 jobs since the start of the pandemic and expects the next 250 vacancies to be filled within the next six months.

Most of Poundland’ stores have stayed open during the Coronavirus outbreak as the company is classed as an essential retailer. However, more than 50 outlets which had been closed have reopened over the last few days.

Barry Williams, the managing director of Poundland, said: “It is fantastic news that our high street neighbours are preparing to get back to business; not just other retailers but the cafés, gyms and hairdressers who make our town centres the vibrant places people love.”

“We know too that many will be making their first tentative steps back into their town centres after being away for some time. We can’t wait to welcome them and say hello. Come see how we’ve changed.”

“We’re cracking on with our transformation programme and our investment in new stores, refurbishments, new ranges and distribution. With the challenges faced by high streets, that’s good news for our customers, our colleagues and our communities,” added Mr Williams.

At full capacity, Poundland has almost 900 stores and employs more than 18,000 people in full and part time positions. You can find out more about working for the firm on our company profile page for Poundland.

And, as the high streets of the UK continue to reopen, why not see if you can find a part time retail job in your area now?
