Domestic & General Could Create 200 New Full Or Part Time Jobs In Nottingham

Domestic & General, a firm which offers warranties on boilers and other household appliances, has said it could create around 200 new full or part time jobs in Nottingham in the next few years.

Domestic & General already employs around 1,000 staff in Nottingham but says it could increase its headcount in the city by up to 20 per cent with a move into new offices on Station Street.

The company has outgrown its existing base on Nottingham’s Talbot Street, where it has had its headquarters for more than 20 years.

The new offices are expected to be ready for business towards the end of next year, with great access to Nottingham train station and a rooftop terrace with the canal views which staff can make use of at break times.

Announcing hundreds of potential new vacancies in the East Midlands city, Nick Ulycz, the Chief Operating Officer at Domestic & General, said:

“We really like Nottingham, we like the fact that we’ve got some people that have worked for us for a long time. We like the fact that we can attract good quality people. We will have capacity for another couple of hundred jobs to grow in time. We wanted to take sufficient space so that we could grow and add some additional roles in Nottingham.”

Mr Ulycz also mentioned that his company had been ‘very resilient’ throughout the UK’s pandemic, in large part due to a flexible way of allowing their staff to work.

“We’ve learned people can be as productive at home as they are in the office, so why would we not want to continue to offer that to people? We think people will spend two or three days a week in the office or two or three days a week at home.”

“Our view is that Pandora’s Box has opened and you can’t slam it back shut and tell everyone to come back to work Monday to Friday 9 to 5. We are early adopters and I think that is a good thing. It will bring growth as we bring additional jobs into the city which is fantastic for Nottingham,” added the Chief Operating Officer.

As well as the company’s 1,000 current staff in Nottingham, Domestic & General also employ a further 1,400 people in the UK at their other bases in Bedworth, Brighton, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Wimbledon.
