New World Street Food Hall At Metquarter To Create Over 130 Jobs In Liverpool

Plans have been announced for a massive new ‘world street food’ hall at the Metquarter centre, a development which will create over 130 new full or part time jobs in Liverpool.

The food hall will be Liverpool’s biggest and is expected to open in the next few months, according to developers Queensberry Real Estate.

The street food area, to be managed by The Milestone Group, will be dubbed GPO in a nod to the location’s earliest incarnation as Liverpool’s General Post Office.

Foodie tenants who have already signed up for a presence at the new Liverpool cuisine attraction include Bubble Tea, Bullion Craft Bean Cafe, Dirty Herb Vegan Chicken, JailBird Nashville Fried Chicken, Patty B's Burgers, Restaurant Konjo and Thai 25.

Announcing the plans for the Merseyside city, The Milestone Group’s founder and director, Matt Bigland, said: “With a mix of design and culinary excellence, GPO will showcase the best in up-and-coming food and drink talent in the heart of Liverpool City Centre. Independent and totally unique food vendors make up the mix, hand chosen and incubated to showcase the best in the world food in one iconic venue.”

Queensberry Real Estate’s asset manager, Alex Hyams, also commented, saying: “This is tremendous news, we're delighted to be bringing Milestone Group as experienced food hall operators to Liverpool. GPO will be the largest food hall in the city centre and adds to the dynamic blend of uses which make up our unique offering at Metquarter.”

Jennina O'Neill, the Metquarter’s centre manager, welcomed the development, saying: “As well as creating 132 jobs in the city, GPO will be a hub for Liverpool's emerging food hall scene showcasing the best independent operators in the city.”

“The revolutionary and innovative food ordering app iBe will be at the helm of the customer journey and will provide an unprecedented user experience for all visitors. We're excited to see the plans come to life over the coming weeks and look forward to welcoming visitors this spring,” added Ms O’Neill.
