Frozen food retailer Iceland has announced plans to create 3,500 new supermarket jobs in the UK on the back of ongoing demand during the pandemic.

The supermarket chain is creating 2,500 new store assistant positions and online order picker roles at locations throughout the UK, as well as around 1,000 new jobs for drivers.

For the moment, the new jobs at Iceland will be temporary vacancies but it is always a great idea for students to get a ‘foot in the door’ if they are hoping for longer term work in the future.

Iceland filled 3,300 seasonal roles in the run up to Christmas 2020 and had already created almost that many permanent positions throughout last year as customers in lockdown ordered more products online.

The UK’s third lockdown at the start of 2021 has led to Iceland boosting its ranks once again in order to cope with a new surge in demand for its services.

Announcing the new recruitment drive, Iceland Foods’ chief customer and digital officer, David Devany, said: “We’re equally delighted to be one of the very few supermarkets with online delivery slots available to customers right now, and to be able to offer yet more job opportunities as a result of the continuing growth in demand for our service.”

“Our Iceland team is now well over 30,000 strong and I am exceptionally proud of the way our store and delivery colleagues have gone above and beyond during the pandemic, introducing new measures to help their local communities and offering a truly outstanding service to our customers,” added Mr Devany.
