AO To Create 120 New Warehouse Jobs In Stoke-on-Trent

AO, an online retailer of electrical goods, is to create 120 new warehouse jobs in Stoke-on-Trent.

The company has opened a massive distribution hub in Stoke, its biggest facility to date, creating over a hundred job vacancies for students and locals in the city.

The new AO warehouse in Stoke is based at G-Park Stoke on Meir Park and covers an area in excess of 25,000 square metres.

Roles on offer at AO’s G-Park Stoke facility include warehouse operatives, forklift truck drivers and team leaders.

The news follows just a couple of months after AO announced it was creating 200 new vacancies in Crewe.

Announcing the new warehouse roles in Stoke-on-Trent, AO Logistics’ managing director, David Ashwell, said: “We've really had to act quickly to adapt to an influx in customers following the Covid-19 lockdown. By actively securing more warehousing space and creating hundreds of new, quality jobs in the process, we're working hard to invest in the future.”

“As a business, we're proud to provide both an essential service for customers and a safe working environment for our people, with social distancing in place. Our team has continued to adapt to necessary changes and they are taking the swift expansion in their stride. With our latest distribution sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford, we've now established a strong logistics hub in the North West.”

“Expanding our logistics network is a crucial step in our growth strategy, so we can continue to serve customers when they need us the most,” added Mr Ashwell.

Welcoming the announcement, the Chief Executive Officer at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, Sara Williams, said: “The increase in demand from online retailers has seen a growth in the logistics and distribution sector and it is great to see that electronics and appliances giant, AO, have recognised Stoke-on-Trent's central location, skilled workforce and great transport links and are utilising our region's strengths to help grow their company.”

Alun Rogers, a local business leader and chairman of the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), also commented, saying: “This is great news for our area. Job creation into the hundreds is particularly welcome at this time, when many face uncertainty now the Government's Job Retention Scheme has ended.”

“AO has a big presence in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, not least because of our workforce and central location. We're really pleased that the company is offering employment opportunities across a range of roles,” said Mr Rogers.

Warehouse work can be a great way for students to gain work experience and earn some spare cash. The hours are flexible and there is often more work available in the term holidays when distribution centres can have their busiest periods.
