Delivery firm Yodel is to create almost 3,000 Christmas jobs before the end of the year as it looks forward to its busiest festive period ever.

The company, headquartered at the famous Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool, is taking on 2,950 new temps to get through an expected upsurge in online deliveries during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Yodel is hiring staff across its 50 UK bases, with 2,500 self-employed roles on offer, in addition to 450 new in-house positions.

Full and part time positions available nationwide include parcel sorters and delivery drivers after Yodel reports a massive uptick in demand for online orders as shoppers retreat from high street stores during the pandemic.

At the time of writing it is unclear whether there is a chance that the new recruits could become permanent fixtures at Yodel, but the parcel delivery firm says that it expects demand for its service to continue throughout winter.

Announcing the recruitment drive for surplus staff this Christmas, the Chief Executive Officer of Yodel, Mike Hancox, said: “The ongoing growth in online retail is set to continue into the festive season as consumers flock to buy gifts for friends, family and loved ones. We’re expecting this peak period to be higher in intensity and longer in duration than ever before as people look to prepare for Christmas earlier.”

“That’s why, as we prepare for a period of sustained demand, we are looking to welcome more than 2,900 new colleagues, bolstering our operations to ensure customers and clients receive the excellent service they deserve.”
