Iceland Creates 3,000 Supermarket Jobs Across UK

Frozen food specialist Iceland has announced a recruitment drive which will create 3,000 full or part time supermarket jobs across the UK.

Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, Iceland has seen demand for its online products more than quadruple in the last six months.

The surge in demand has led the retail chain to create thousands of new full and part time jobs in their stores as well as many driving roles to deliver their online orders.

The in-store vacancies will mainly be for new staff to pick the products which customers are ordering online.

Iceland says it now has the capacity to expedite up to three quarters of a million orders every week and is set to increase its delivery fleet by around 30 per cent to cope with demand.

Launching the recruitment drive for thousands of new staff at his firm, Iceland’s chief customer and digital officer, David Devany, said: “We’ve been blown away by the demand for deliveries over the past six months with a four-fold increase in online orders since the beginning of lockdown. We see no sign of a slowdown in the demand for deliveries in the run up to Christmas, so a recruitment drive for more permanent staff was essential.”

“Our store and delivery colleagues have gone above and beyond during lockdown introducing incredible measures to help their local communities, and I’m proud that our business has been able to adapt to the changing needs of our customer,” added Mr Devany.

Iceland is just the latest retailer to reveal big recruitment plans in the last few weeks, following on from Co-op announcing plans to hire 1,000 new staff, Amazon looking to fill 27,000 vacancies and Tesco creating 16,000 new positions.
