DIY specialist Screwfix has announced a new round of store expansion which will see the firm create over 450 full and part time jobs in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

The company, owned by Kingfisher, is to launch 40 new stores and will create an average of more than 10 new jobs with each opening.

30 new branches of Screwfix are earmarked to open around the UK, creating approximately 300 vacancies.

The DIY firm also plans to open 10 new stores in the Republic of Ireland, adding around 160 new jobs to the economy there.

The new stores are being opened in response to an increase in demand for its product range during the Coronavirus pandemic when many people turned to DIY to improve their homes whilst on lockdown.

The 30 new UK branches of Screwfix will be open by the end of January 2021 and a mix of roles will be available including customer service assistant and retail managers.

Announcing the new round of hiring, John Mewett, the Chief executive of Screwfix, said: “The growing demand for convenience means we’re opening more stores to help our busy customers get their jobs done.”

“We know that time is money for our customers and these new stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland will not only enable us to provide our customers with added convenience and certainty, but also allow us to provide even more job opportunities for local communities when they need it most,” added Mr Mewett.

Screwfix already has around 680 branches so the new round of expansion will see the company pass through the 700 store threshold in the next few months.
