A new branch of discount chain B&M is set to create dozens of full or part time jobs in Durham.
The new store will open next Thursday, 25th June (2020), bucking the Coronavirus trend and creating just short of 50 vacancies in the city centre.
The latest B&M outlet will be located on Durham City Retail Park and will generate much-needed jobs for students and other locals in the area.
Although B&M temporarily closed 49 stores at the beginning of April due to the outbreak of the pandemic, the company has never ceased trading during the crisis.
Indeed, in many ways the retailer seems to have thrived during the Coronavirus era, reopening all of its 49 closed stores during May and reporting a surprising 3.2% increase in annual profits just last week.
At the end of May, B&M said that demand for its DIY, gardening and home improvement products had surged by almost 23 per cent over the last eight weeks of the lockdown.
Although customers were not visiting their local B&M stores as often during the crisis, the firm said that people’ average spend during each visit was much more than usual.
The strong demand for their DIY products has thus allowed B&M to not only keep existing stores open but expand to new outlets like the one on Durham City Retail Park, creating crucial new jobs in the process.
Announcing the recruitment drive in Durham, Mark Pedalty, the store manager, said: “Our new colleagues have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day, we can’t wait to get the doors open on the 25th and show customers their brand new B&M.”
This kind of news just highlights the fact that there are still job opportunities opening up, even during the days of COVID-19. So, if you want to find the latest vacancies in this area today, then head over to our current listings of Student Jobs In Durham now...
