Parcel Delivery & Courier Firm To Create 100 New Jobs In Nottingham

Parcel delivery and courier firm Hermes has announced plans to create around 100 full or part time jobs in Nottingham.

The company is moving into new premises in the Eastwood area of Nottingham and has multiple jobs across eight different roles, including loaders and drivers, on offer at its new site.

Hermes is preparing to open their new depot at Panattoni Park Nottingham, near to Junction 26 of the M1, at the start of June.

The delivery firm was only supposed to be opening the new facility in July, but extra demand for their online delivery services due to the Coronavirus pandemic, has led to them fast-tracking their launch date at the site by four weeks.

Initially, the new staff at the Nottingham depot will help the Hermes process around 100,000 deliveries per day, but the 75,000 square foot warehouse has the capacity to increase by around 20 per cent to facilitate 120,000 parcels by 2021.

Commenting on the deal, the development director at Panattoni Park Nottingham, Simon Jenkins, said: “We were pleased to work with Hermes to complete this transaction. Hermes’ outline requirement was for a building of this size in this location. We were able to work with their team to adapt the building, which we had developed on a speculative basis, to suit their exact needs.”

Hermes’s director of operations for hubs and depots, Jon Ormond, also commented on the launch in Nottingham, saying: “During these unprecedented times we are seeing a new wave of adoption of online shopping as it becomes the core route for people to get their essentials and also send parcels as a way of connecting with their loved ones.”

“This has generated an increase in parcel volumes and a demand for additional capacity and it is therefore imperative that we continue to make the right strategic investments in the right locations. This will also create new jobs and provide economic stimulation to these regions as the UK faces challenging economic times,” added Mr Ormond.

Incidentally, as an aside to the dozens of jobs they are creating in Nottingham, it’s also worth a mention that Hermes offer a special discount for students. You can take advantage of a 20 per cent student discount on their delivery services by visiting this page of the company’s website.
