AM Fresh, a major food firm, is set to create up to 180 new full or part time jobs in Peterborough when it moves into a huge warehouse in the Cambridgeshire city.
The company is to take on a new distribution and manufacturing facility on the 180 acre Gateway Peterborough site at Roxhill, near to Junction 17 of the A1.
AM Fresh have decided to make the massive investment in Peterborough after discussions with the Department of International Trade and Opportunity Peterborough, an economic development company in the region.
Announcing the new deal, the chief executive of Opportunity Peterborough, Tom Hennessy, said: “The significant investment from AM Fresh is fantastic news for Peterborough. In spite of the challenging times, Peterborough is still grabbing the attention of growing international companies which, crucially, is converting into real investment.’’
“The city’s skilled workforce, its location on the doorstep of the A1, and affordable costs are a big part of its Peterborough’s appeal but there is also a well established food, drink, and agri-tech supply chain that will help AM Fresh develop and strengthen its operations.’’
“We are currently working with AM Fresh to support its recruitment drive and its sustainability programmes. We were contacted by the DIT to aid decision making with intelligence on the city’s offer for agri-food businesses,” added Mr Hennessy.
AM Fresh is a global giant in the food industry, operating in 20 locations worldwide and employing almost 6,000 people.
The new recruitment push for 180 staff in Peterborough is part of the #FeedtheNation initiative which was launched to provide support for UK supermarkets during the Coronavirus pandemic..
Earlier this month, supermarket chains Waitrose and Sainsbury’s announced they were creating 100 new jobs in Peterborough.
