Teaching platform Outschool currently has 5,000 online tutoring jobs up for grabs as demand for home schooling soars in the Coronavirus crisis.
The US firm only opened up the roles to candidates from the UK earlier this month and are desperate for staff to teach children via online tools.
Outschool offers a wide range of subjects for children aged 3 to 18 and need to ramp up their tutor numbers to cope with demand in the UK.
At the start of the pandemic, Outschool’s existing 1,000 tutors were overwhelmed by the number of families seeking online classes and went on a massive recruitment drive for 5,000 new teachers.
At the time of the outbreak they could only accept candidates from the US, and Canada. They then added Australia and New Zealand to the list in the middle of March after demand for their services increased tenfold.
Earlier this month, the company then broadened their ability to conduct background checks in the UK, meaning that students in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland can now also apply for the tutoring jobs too.
Outschool has provided over 500,000 live class hours to more than 120,000 students via online video chat powered by the Zoom app.
Announcing the expansion of recruitment for the new roles in the UK, Amir Nathoo, the co-founder of Outschool, said: “We know parents, teachers and kids are struggling right now with school closures and Outschool has experienced a ten-fold increase in enrolments.”
“Our teachers can work from home and earn supplemental income while doing what they love. Teachers are free to set their own schedules, curriculum and prices, with an average of around £30 per hour,” added Mr Nathoo.
The Outschool website says that top teachers can earn as much as $10,000 a month, which, at the time of writing, equates to £8,067. Tutors don’t have to make any long term commitment and are free to work the hours that suit them.
