British luxury performance motor yacht firm Sunseeker International has announced plans to create dozens of boat builder apprenticeships at its shipyards in Dorset.

The Poole-based firm says that 40 apprenticeships will be on offer as the company is set to double the number of different types of motor yachts which it builds.

Currently, Sunseeker builds 11 different models, but, with the help of the new apprentices, they will expand their range to 22 models before the end of 2023.

In 2017, Sunseeker won an award for Best Apprenticeship Training Scheme at the IBI International Boat Builder Awards so the apprenticeships should be high quality.

The apprentices will attend Bournemouth and Poole College’s Marine Technology Centre whilst also gaining hands-on work experience at Sunseeker’s shipyards in Poole and Portland.

The roles are paid apprenticeships and successful applicants will learn a mix of skills and trades including mechanical and electrical engineering, carpentry and joinery.

Announcing the new opportunities, Sunseeker International’s head of Human Resources operations, Alex Bowman, said: “Sunseeker has been offering apprenticeships for more than 50 years. The scheme is a credible route to a very rewarding career. These new team members will learn the necessary craft skills from experienced boat builders to produce the level of quality and attention-to-detail for which Sunseeker is renowned.”
