Students from Shipley College in Bradford are being treated to work experience opportunities by tourism firm Hays Travel.
The students, who are studying travel and tourism at Shipley College have had three days work experience at their local branch of Hays Travel.
14 students have worked alongside the branch manager and assistant managers to gain an insight into what life in the sector is like.
Commenting on the initiative, the branch manager at Shipley’s Hays Travel, Kerry Appleby, said, “I began my career through work experience 20 years ago and I have loved the path that it led me down.”
“We feel it is so important to give them a taste of what a career in the travel industry could look like,” added Ms Appleby.
Back in November, we brought you news that Hays Travel was creating 750 apprenticeships and a further 750 new jobs in the travel sector. Once they have finished the recruitment drive Hays Travel will employ over 5,000 people in the UK.
Speaking at the time about why young people were important to his firm the travel firm’s managing director, John Hays, said: “We have always recruited, supported and developed young people. They are the future of our industry. We are looking forward to expanding our apprenticeship programme and making sure there’s at least one travel apprentice on most of the UK’s high streets.”
