B&M To Create 300 New Full Or Part Time Jobs In Bedford

Discount retail chain B&M has said it will create 300 new full or part time jobs in Bedford with the opening of a huge warehouse next year.

The £120 million distribution centre in Bedford will be B&M’s biggest facility to date and could lay claim to being one of the biggest in the UK too, spanning an area of more than a dozen football pitches.

Once completed next Spring, the new distribution hub will initially supply 50 B&M stores but will have the capacity to deliver to 250 branches by the end of next year.

The Bedford facility will be B&M’s seventh distribution centre, adding to existing ones in Blackpool, Merseyside and Middlewich. Across all of their distribution hubs, B&M provides jobs for around 2,500 employees nationwide.

The 300 full and part time vacancies on offer will include a mix of roles, including warehouse operatives and HGV drivers.

Commenting on the new hub, chief executive of B&M Retail, Simon Arora, said: “Our continued nationwide growth has allowed us to invest approximately £100m in what will be one of the largest distribution facilities in the UK.”

James Kemp, the managing director of Pentadel Project Management which is managing the development, also commented, saying: “With over 600 stores up and down the UK and more in the pipeline, we have overseen the on-time delivery of a vast warehouse and distribution hub that offers B&M an efficient, agile and sustainable operation for current and future growth.”
