Sky To Create 1,000 New Jobs In Leeds & Across The UK

Sky, the entertainment and media giant, has said it will create 1,000 new jobs in Leeds and across the rest of the United Kingdom.

The vacancies will be split half and half between customer service roles and engineering positions.

The 500 customer service roles will be based at Sky’s new contact centre in Leeds, while the 500 permanent engineering vacancies will be spread out across the UK.

The recruitment push comes amid what Sky describes as ‘growing customer demand’ and will see the firm increase its headcount to around 25,000 members of staff, a boost of almost 5 per cent in their current ranks.

Sky already employs around 1,000 staff in Leeds, but the new hunt for staff represents a significant further investment in the Yorkshire city, increasing their employees by around half as many again.

The 500 new engineering roles also represent a huge increase in numbers, taking their count of engineers in the UK from around 3,500 at present to 4,000 employees in total over the coming months.

Much of the drive to find new talent comes as the company rolls out its latest platform, Sky Q TV.

Announcing the drive for new staff across the country, Stephen van Rooyen, Sky’s chief executive for the UK and Ireland, said: “It's great that 500 new Sky engineers will be hitting the roads right across the UK this winter to meet growing customer demand.”

“Together with our expanded team in Leeds, these 1,000 new employees are a real testament to Sky's commitment to customer service and investment to create a diverse workforce right across the UK,” added Mr van Rooyen.
