Degree with 100% employment rate

17 Aug 2007

Degree with 100% employment rate The University of Sunderland has claimed that one of its degrees offers a 100 per cent employment rate, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The Sc (Hons) Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences degree offers a total employment rate for graduates, according to Dr Lee Williams, 27, a lecturer in analytical chemistry at the university.

He was quoted by the Sunderland Echo as saying: "We have a 100 per cent employment rate with the chemical and pharmaceutical degree because companies move quickly to get graduates as soon as they come out of university."

The claim comes as the university launches a new degree modelled on the same programme – but this time for future crime fighters.

BSc (Hons) Forensic and Pharmaceutical Sciences degree which will start in September.

Based on the chemical and pharmaceutical degree, it aims to give potential students an introduction to the skills they need for work in forensic science.

Recruitment prospects for the graduates of the new programmes are not looking quite as healthy though, the university said.

"The chance of becoming a crime investigator is very slim. It's more likely that [graduates] will be a lab-based forensic analyst," Dr Lee said.

The degree will be available as a three-year full-time course or a four-year full-time sandwich course.
