Marks & Spencer are to create 500 Christmas jobs in Leicestershire as the company takes on hundreds of seasonal staff at its distribution centre in Castle Donington.

As M&S readies itself for its busiest period of the trading year, the retailer is looking for temporary staff to join its ranks at the warehouse facility near Burton.

Temporary staff at Marks & Spencer's Castle Donington site can earn over £9 an hour and have access to subsidised food and drink at the onsite restaurant.

Jobs on offer include pickers and packers for orders which Christmas shoppers will make online through the Marks & Spencer website.

The facility had around 1,000 staff at the start of this year but has already swelled its headcount by 40 per cent in 2019. The Christmas seasonal staff could also look forward to joining the M&S family on a more permanent basis in the New Year, if they impress managers at the Castle Donington base.

Announcing the recruitment drive, Jon Adams, the head of Marks & Spencer at Castle Donington, said: “With Christmas just a few months away, we're heading into one of the busiest times of the year and look forward to working with partner Staffline as we begin the recruitment of seasonal colleagues who play an incredibly important role in creating a magical Christmas for customers who shop with Marks & Spencer.”
