US Cyber Security Firm To Create 120 Jobs In Belfast

An American cyber security firm has pledged it will create up to 120 new jobs in Belfast as it sets up a new base in the city.

Contrast Security, a Californian firm, has chosen Belfast for its new development and delivery centre after receiving over £780,000 in investment from Invest Northern Ireland.

The company specialises in keeping software safe from cyber attacks and works with clients from various sectors including e-commerce, financial services, healthcare, insurance, retail and technology.

The new Belfast roles at Contrast Security command an average salary in excess of £30,000 and the 120 jobs will be advertised over the course of the next three years.

Announcing the plans, the Chief Executive Officer of Contrast Security, Alan Naumann, said: “Access to experienced professionals, strong technical universities, and the proximity to our European customer base makes Northern Ireland the right choice for this new centre. We are very grateful for Invest NI’s support to help make this happen.

“There are 30 million developers worldwide and our job is to enable them to easily deliver software that is inherently secure and built to withstand sophisticated attacks. To do this, we have ambitious plans to expand our footprint across Europe and the team here in Northern Ireland will be crucial to helping us achieve this,” said Mr Naumann.

Welcoming the announcement, Councillor John Finucane, the Lord Mayor of Belfast, said: “We are delighted to welcome Contrast Security to Belfast and we’re pleased to hear that direct access to experienced professionals, strong technical universities and proximity to their European customer base have all influenced their decision.”

“We’re committed to securing Foreign Direct Investment through our Belfast Agenda and to putting ourselves at the forefront of innovation and digital development through the Belfast Region City Deal, so this is excellent news today.”

“We look forward to developing a very positive working relationship with Contrast Security and wish them all the best in their new location,” added Councillor Finucane.

The Chief Executive Office of Invest Northern Ireland, Alastair Hamilton, also commented, saying: “Cybersecurity is one of the greatest challenges facing the public, private and third-party sectors. In today’s digital world every major company across almost every industry is building software to empower the digital experiences consumers expect. As more products and services are procured, delivered or operated via the internet, the risk of security breaches by well organised, highly motivated criminals increases daily.”

“The new centre will include an R&D team of software developers to help create new innovative products, along with sales and marketing teams to support the company’s European growth plans. Over the next three years, 120 jobs will be created, contributing nearly £4million annually in additional salaries when fully operational,” added Mr Hamilton.
